Time and time again you can hear about good business communications when it comes to starting up your own company or making the move into freelancing. However, do you really know what business communications is? Has anybody ever told you what you are supposed to consider? Probably not.
What is Business Communications ?
Broken down simply, communication is about getting a message from yourself to another person. When it comes to business communications this message is about getting across what your company does and the service you are committed to providing. Starting out can be difficult because you may not have considered about how you are going to pitch to clients or gain more customers. There are two ways that you can do this, either through the use of oral communication or written communication; the choice is completely up to you.
Using Oral Methods Of Business Communications
This consists of standing up in front of people and speaking to them. It can be daunting the first time you do it and can take a lot of practice to stop any stuttering or nervous habits; everybody has them so you do not need to worry about being in the minority. It is very important that you speak clearly so that everybody can understand you and get all of your points across early on or as a conclusion to help people remember what you were talking about. Oral communication is also about finding people who are interested in the service that you are providing; if they are not then they will simply not listen to you.

Using Written Methods Of Business Communications
Sometimes this is better, especially if you are nervous talking to a number of people. Written forms are also great to get the message out to a greater number of people and can be done in a variety of methods. You could consider social networking to get a written message across to promote your new business or use emails to those that have signed up to your website. You do need to be careful when it comes to marketing as it can be considered as spam if you do it too often but it is also very effective.
If you are starting up a gardening business, you could consider posting out a price list with your details to get clients or customers rather than having to explain them when they call you. You also do not need to worry about finding people who are interested in your offer or about them daydreaming through your presentations since they will either read your notice or throw it in the trash; they can also check back to it if they do forget something.
When you start up your own business, it is very important to be organized and professional when it comes to any form of business communications. Consider and get to know your audience and ensure that you make them feel like you are only interested in them and you are not thinking about what you will have for dinner that night.
